Monaco Grand Prix

A Jewel in the Triple Crown of Motorsports
Located on a rock promontory extending into the Mediterranean, Monaco is the second smallest country in the world behind the Pope’s flat in Rome. The narrow, winding turns of the city and many elevation changes made the tiny ocean-side country, a principal of France, a perfect challenge for Formula One racers and one of the most demanding tracks in the industry.

Now one of the most prestigious races in the world, the circuit at Monaco got off to a humble start. The first race in Monaco was nearly a loss when Maserati and Alfa Romeo drivers refused to compete in the race. Bugatti and Mercedes took first and second at the low-key inauguration and set the stage for things to come.

Since its inauguration in 1929, the Circuit de Monaco has twice been chosen as the European Grand Prix and remains a part of the Triple Crown of Motorsports, alongside Le Mans and Indianapolis. Ayrton Senna of Brazil holds the course record with six wins, obtaining five consecutive victories between 1989 and 1993, when he displaced Mr. Monaco, Graham Hill’s fifth win from 1960.

Monaco may be small, but it offers plenty to do before and after the race. The rocky coast makes an unforgettable rock climbing venue and guided day hikes are available. Boutique stores and jewelry shops line the coastal streets. Fine South American and French cuisine are served in a number of restaurants and hotels.

The night life in Monaco includes several casinos and clubs, offering a perfect place to unwind and, after the race, full of eager fans ready to celebrate. A recent addition to the city, fight fans can now party down after the race while enjoying some K1 combat sports in one of the cities prime casinos.
