Run with the Bulls

Nine Glorious Days of Dodging Bulls
Every July the small Spanish city of Pamplona hosts one of the most famous events recognized the world over. As much as a visit to the Grand Canyon is must see for any bucket list, the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona is a must do. The bull run began as a method for transporting the bulls from the corrals in which they were kept to the bull-ring where they would fight the following night. Young Spanish men would run in front of them as a sign of bravado. That practice evolved into the modern day festival, which is one of the more well-known world events. The encierro, as it is known in Spanish, also takes place in other parts of Spain, in Portugal, Mexico and Southern France. However, the run at Pamplona during the nine day San Fermines festival honoring Saint Fermin is far and away the run to complete. Although some might question the sanity of intentionally getting in front of a group of angry, charging bulls, the experience is something that won’t soon be forgotten. Just make sure you have a method for ultimately avoiding the horn as you make your way toward the bull ring.
