Winter Music Conference

A Kaleidoscope of Sound
The Winter Music Conference kicked open the doors in 1986, when 80 of the dance music industries revolutionary minds answered the invitation of DJs and Record Pool Directors Louis Possenti and Bill Kelly. The goal was to provide an industry venue to artists, DJs, record labels, producers, promoters, and media.

Today, the event draws a lot more than just industry insiders. Like an electronic lodestone, it attracts over 300 thousand each season, a quarter dropping in from other countries to attend the International Dance Music Awards. After the trophies are all accepted, attendees head out to sample underground and indie artists, events and panels, and electronics wares that span Miami Beach and downtown.

In 2007, the venue added the First International Record Collectors show, drawing in classical listeners in addition to the dance and electronically inclined. In 2009, the WMC took another leap forward, sponsoring the First Annual WMC VJ Challenge. This celebrity hosted and judged event invites VJs from across the globe to compete in two areas: Video Mixing and Audio/Visual Mixing.

Performances by electronic superstars and VJs, including live interactive compositions of RoboMusic round out the venue. With an international draw of dance enthusiasts, a bank of emerging stars in the making and the dance awards, all set on top of the treasure trove of Miami’s night scene and daytime attractions, the WMC is truly music to the ears.
