New Year's Eve

The Infamous Night Life of Punta del Este
With a party scene that lasts only from late December into mid-January, the Pearl of the South offers days on the beach with beautiful women and chiseled men. Jose Ignacio Beach is packed with hot bods, while Bikini Beach offers live DJs after 4. No matter which beach guests choose, there’s plenty of time to soak up the sun, which stays out as late as 9 p.m.

After dark, it’s time for food and rest before the infamous night scenes takes off, starting at 2 a.m. Well known as an exclusive scene, the clubs in Punta del Este can be tricky to navigate. Travelers do well to book tours with a service that grants access to the top spots, as only the most beautiful and famous stand a chance if they aren’t already on the list.

Jose Inacio offers a nice break from the busy scene of La Barra—the primary night scene—with great beaches, a quiet elegance, and a chance to visit the best seaside restaurant in the world, Gourmet Mag. This old fishing village is a popular haunt of celebrities and visitors occasionally get to sit in the presence of a famous face. The party scene in Jose Inacio is quiet and mostly in-home. Fortunately, the people are warm and quick to open the doors to newcomers.

Described by Jet Set Life as “the white creamy center between the Oreo cookies of Argentina and Brazil,” Punta del Este offers the perfect setting for a New Year’s getaway.
