The World's Largest Reef System
For any person who has ever taken even an introductory PADI course in SCUBA diving, there is one dive spot which captures the imagination like no other: the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia. Simply known as the Reef to most Australians and anyone in the diving community, this biological wonder is composed of over 2900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching over 1,600 miles. It is the world’s biggest single structure and can be seen from outer space. No wonder then that divers the world over converge their to experience this underwater playground up close and personal. SCUBA diving the reef is without a doubt the highlight of any trip to this region of the planet. Famous dive sites include places like Cod Hole, which bring you up close and personal with giant potato cod and the North Horn gives you the opportunity to see sharks feeding.
